Zahirah Nur Truth Arts Emerges

Peaceful Greetings Beloved Friends,

It has been a tremulous journey for me of the past few years but more specifically the past year and a half. My whole life in April of 2017 came to screeching halt with an untimely major health crisis, under much doctor supervision and timely support from loved ones I am abundantly thankful I do not look like all that I have been through. My focus and clarity is better than ever, even though the road to optimal health is an ongoing journey. Art still stands as a focal point and prominent component of my overall well being. It is the one thing that I am blessed to always have up until this point and show through my process of personal struggle and growth. As a woman of color I have always drawn upon that experience however as I have had more time to myself to reflect as I recover. I have noticed the black man and black women is not possible with out each other. I am often bombarded via social media and the news about the state of racial tension in America but more importantly the way in which black men and women are seen in America and all over the world. There is numerous offensive incidents of police brutality, mockery of ones skin color and ethnic features picked apart under the guise of art and the social advertising of products. Nether or less what comes to mind for me currently is the struggle of the black man often wrongfully accused, misunderstood and thrown under the bus so to speak.

Currently in my life I find a need to depict ambiguous portraits of black men in hopes that other women or men can identify with the painting that is reflected to them by seeing their father, uncle brother, cousin or any other patriarchal figure that resonates in their life.

Black Lives Matter! However more specifically "Black Men Matter" to me and in this new 3 part series of portraits I hope to invoke thought and conversations around the male black experience related to everyday life, fatherhood and community. A family is made up of many components but most importantly in a more traditional since it is made up of a Father and Mother. In order to invoke change in our communities it first starts in the nuclear structure of our individual homes with our children no matter how cliche children need fathers as well as mothers.

Join me this week as I display the other two portraits for view at

Discovering Roxbury: Mission Hill Chapter

What a marvelous fall we have been experiencing here in New England!

Most recently we celebrated and collaborated through out the Boston area more specifically Roxbury and other surrounding cities to bring Discover Roxbury Open Studios  Annual Artistic Showcase.

An exciting two day event that was held on October 3 & 4 in many site locations.

DaArtistZNT and friends  represented well in a new site location located at the beloved JP LICKS MISSION HILL.

This opportunity brought family fun, culture and arts for an otherwise quiet corridor of Brigham Circle.

We had a variety of art available created by 5 talented artist of varied backgrounds.

Original works, prints, canvas paintings and the art of photography. We were greeted by children, families, the old and the young. Surprised to see art work being displayed in the lower level hall of Stop and Shop corridor community members were educated and dazzled on the history of Discover Roxbury and the birth of JP LICKS being a home for artists.

I was accompanied by my beloved youngest son Diligent Shallah affectionately known as Dili. It's not easy being an artist let alone a single mom. He joined me for the two day extravaganza bringing joy and laughter to all he encountered.

He even helped me promote my face painting business!

This overall experience was brought together by many community organizations.

Da Artist ZNT performs with Pat Oleszko's Hello Folly: The Floes & Cons of Arctic Drilling

Greetings Everyone,

Pat Olezsko Polar Bear

I have been on the whimsical and magical journey that is performance art.

I am currently a 3rd year student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. During my studies I have explored my cultural connections with the African diaspora  as well as more contemporary current events.

During my most recent studies I have explored characters influenced by my child hood television shows and youthful years growing up in a beauty salon with my maternal grandmother traveling between Everett and Dorchester Massachusetts. In which I encounter neighborhood characters of Italian, Portuguese, Hispanic and Carribean descent.

Out of these experiences I developed a love for culture, beauty refinement consisting of hair and make up application as well as distinctive native accents and languages associated with certain cultures.

This past spring I created "Madam ZT" a disfigured alligator skinned woman, whom is beauty and beast from the deep bayous of New Orleans.

Madam ZT draws upon all that is mystic and combines natural medicine with conscious universal intuition. This revelation of truth and healing comes to those that seek out her services.

Boof the Clown

Prior to this explorative character based in carnival tradition, I also explored comedy via being a clown. I drew inspiration from the hilarious 90's television series "In Living Color" in which I was the niece of beloved "Homey the Clown".  Finding humor through one of life's happiest and darkest emotions "love" looking for love in all the wrong places and using reference book guides in my search took viewers on a journey of me chasing my own tail.
Polar Dance

Most recently I had the opportunity to participate in a group performance with Pat Olezsko exploring concepts related to the environmental devastation a-dressing the chilling nature of Arctic drilling, spilling and killing. Featuring
overblown costumes, lithe action, and relentless wordplay.

It was a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon on July  18 @ 3pm at Boston's

Institute of Contemporary Art

We were led in by the Band.

I was delighted to be part of the water presentation in which I was part of a four person team wearing over 3k blue plastic bags!

We came rushing in to engulf all that is taken over by water.

Our glorious leader was a water sprite in which I completed her make-up design as well as did make up applications for myself  and the other water performers.

Make-up art by me

Many Thanks

Da Artist, Da Educator end of Session Preschool Art Show!

PeacefulGreetings

It has been some time my friends I have been busy behind the scenes making artistic connections, teaching art as well as growing as visual/performance arts professional.

This past June completed my second year as a "Teaching Artist" at the beloved Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts for  all Ages located in historic Jamaica Plain, MA.

I taught  "Big Artist Little Artist" A wonderful class for children ages 3-5+ years of age accompanied by an adult.

Our last class was a blast in which we created contemporary splatter art utilizing fun neon paints and pompoms as our painting tools.

This course was over 10 weeks in which I introduced preschool children and their adult caregivers to fine art application techniques as well as to the lives of established artist.

It was a pleasure to working with some amazing young growing artist...

We displayed our work at the end of the class session to take in all that we created. It was an amazing art show presentation.

I provided light refreshments of natural snacks for my students.

Watercolor and salt experimentation

Children and families enjoyed a variety of works exploring decoupage, wax resistant applications, print making, color theory, various painting mediums and fundamental woodworking design.
